Community Programs
Our Community
Kura Yerlo Inc. offer a range of programs to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Community that are age, gender and culturally appropriate. Each program is co-designed with local people to enhance connections to culture through community access, cultural events, the arts and artefact making, and one on one support.
Our programs provide an opportunity for participants to learn from elders and peers in a social setting to pass skills and knowledge that maintain, strengthen and promote our and future generations confidence and understanding of their cultural identity.

Kura Yerlo youth programs are starting up again after our big move from Largs Bay. Our deadly Youth reference group (formally AYAC) has re-formed in Port Adelaide and serves as a voice for Aboriginal young people in the West. Watch this space!
We are in the process of designing other youth programs for children and young people to positively influence identity, wellbeing and connectedness with their culture and community. Mentoring our young people to keep them strong is our key priority. We link with other KY programs such as Culture Hub every second Saturday in Port Adelaide and Kurruru programs at Seaton.

Kura Yerlo has provided opportunities for cultural connection in the west since 1987 and now provides cultural mentoring for young people across all of metro Adelaide.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ expression of cultural identity remains as important now as it has always been. Our Yunga Yakana program provides mentoring to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people living away from their mob. Through this program young people take part in Aboriginal cultural practices, access supports to engage in their hobbies and passions, and receive valuable life skills from our culturally responsive Aboriginal youth mentors.
